Wishing you a Merry Christmas!

Santa's Promise

Santa spoke to the little one,
You've left me a big job to carry on.

To remind everyone on the earth
of your very special birth.

To fill their hearts with Christ like love,
and bring Christmas spirit down from above.

To have them open their hearts and minds,
to spread Joy, Peace and Love to all mankind.

As Santa was kneeling before the little one,
with promise in his heart,

He spoke softly to the tiny babe,
and vowed to do his part.

Been MIA

So sorry that I have been MIA these last couple of weeks!
December is already crazy busy, and I am just trying to keep up!
Can you believe the big day is in just 4 days!?!?!?
Are you ready?
I am not!
I am still working on Christmas cards, and I have a day of shopping planned for tomorrow while my
mother-in-law watches the boys for me.
How lucky am I?
***************************************************

So, one of my favorite thing that we have don so far this year has been taking a
Polar Express train ride!!
Oh my goodness, if you haven't done this yet, get on google, type in Polar Express and your state, and
order your tickets for next year!
It was fantastic!

This has been the best memory so far that we have made together as a family this year!
Thanks to my mom for ordering the tickets for us!
Can't wait to do it again!

My snow buddies!

The boys woke up first thing Sunday morning, and I wasn't even fully awake before they started in with asking to play outside in the snow.
Chad was working in Indianapolis, so I needed to do something fun with them.
I dug out the snowsuits and boots, and we headed out.

We were a little bummed that the snow wasn't sticking well, so we couldn't build a snowman.
We still had a good time, and I was even to make snowballs for them to have...they ended up throwing them at me!  We had a fun time playing in the snow.
Winter is here!

Meet Ralphie

He arrived on December 1st, and the boys happily welcomed him to our home!
"What does he like to eat?"
"Can we see him fly?"
"Where are his teeth?"
"Does he see us when we aren't home?"
Those are just a few of the questions that we have encountered about Ralphie.
He's a fun little elf, and he definitely helps with getting the boys up in the mornings.
I wonder if they make a year-round, get-up-for-school helper elf??

Thankful Turkeys and Scrappy Friends

Here is a photo of Graedon showing off his thankful turkey.
It's not exactly like the Martha one, but the kids had fun making them.
It's so great to hear what they are thankful for.

 ****************************************************
I have the best scrappy friends.
Here we are on Friday evening for our Thanksgiving dinner scrappy date.
We hadn't been able to get together since May to scrap, so this date was long overdue.
I am so thankful to have these amazing women in my life!

Fighting a cold

I am fighting a cold...I don't like it.
I can't smell.
I can't taste.
I am using lots of tissues.
I want it to go away.

A cute Thanksgiving craft

I am really looking forward to creating this cute little turkey craft with the kids at our church's Kid's Club tomorrow evening.
I am in charge of the craft, and I think it is good to hear what the kids are thankful for.
I'll be spending some of my day tomorrow cutting out turkey bodies.
Can't wait!

I am humbled today

It is easy to take liberty for granted, when you have never had it taken from you.

My heartfelt gratitude to those who have served, and to those who are serving our country now!  May God bless you and your families!

Trick-or-Treat

Halloween is probably my favorite time of the year.
Yes, I know it is probably due to the fact that my birthday falls on October 29th, but I just have too many great memories that surround my birthday and the fun holiday that Halloween can be!
I think I have my kiddos on board with me at this point.
Graedon kept saying I was having a Halloween birthday party, and Gave loves everything spooky and Halloweenish!
Here I am with my Captain Jack and Mickey Mouse!

Trick-or-Treating in my hometown with my brother, sister-in-law and nieces.
Love this photo!
It was always pretty much Taylor running ahead, Gabe somewhere in the middle or the last one, and Graedon always running, saying "let me knock on the door!"
These kids rock!
This was by far the best house we visited.
Don't mind the smoking adult in the background (sorry about that one), but do pay attention to the far right of the photo.  Do you see that head on the table?
Oh my goodness!!
It was a person with her head sticking out of the table, and all of the trick-or-treating candy was scattered on that table and in her hair.
The kids had to walk up to the table, while the head is giving them the evil eye the whole time.
Once they grab a piece of candy, she would scream at them!
I think Graedon almost peed his pants!
All we could do was laugh!
It was fantastic!
All of us adults have decided we are totally tricking one of our houses out next year to scare our trick-or-treaters!  Can't wait!
I couldn't leave out my sweet baby niece, Morgan as a pumpkin!
I could squeeze her all day!

November already!

Thanksgiving is the non-commercial holiday thrown in between Halloween and Christmas, that sometimes, it loses some gusto!
I have already seen commercials advertising holiday open houses this coming weeked, just the weekend after Halloween.  Nothing like going from tricks and treats to Christmas music overnight.
I feel bad for Thanksgiving.
It needs some love as well.
I am looking for ways to spruce up my house for the month of November, turkey day style!
Here is one of my favorites that can be found over at Craftily Ever After.
Check it out to download the free printables yourself.
I am blog land hunting for more fun and festive Thanksgiving decor as well as great ways to get my boys involved in the spirit of Thanksgiving through crafts and projects.
Please feel free to send suggestions my way!

Love this time of year

I LOVE this time of year!!  I don't know if it just has to do with my birthday being right before Halloween, but this time of the year is my fave!  I love my birthday, I love Halloween, I love fall, I love October!!  I am a little sad that this is the last full week of the best month ever, but it is going to be a great week!

Last night we carved pumpkins at my mom's.  It was so much fun.  I think that is one of my most fave activities for the month of October.  This Friday, my actual birthday, we are hosting a kid-friendly Halloween Costume party at our house.  I cannot wait!  I have so many fun activities, games, treats, etc. planned.  I am also a room mom for Gabe's classroom this year, and I am getting some treat bags made and some fun snickety-snacks prepped for the big day.  Also, I have a couple of girlfriends coming over on Wednesday to do a Halloween craft!  Fun time!  Lots of prep work this week, but so fun!

What do you have going on this week?  Are you a lover of all things Halloween?  I would love to hear about them!  I am going to leave you with a pic of our jack-o-lanterns!
Happy Halloween Week!

Could use some extra prayers, please?

I can't sleep.  I am to be up in 5 hours to take my mom in for an ablation surgery in the morning.  It's not a risky procedure, and I know my trust in Him is strong to take care of my mom, but it's my mom!!  My mom is my security, and it is scary to imagine a life without her in it.  I would appreciate it so greatly, if you would offer up a prayer for her tomorrow morning at 8am.

Thanks!!

Polar Express

My mom just booked us tickets for a ride on the Polar Express, and I am so very excited!
Jammies, hot chocolate, Santa, and a magical train ride...what's not to love?!?!?
We're going to keep it a surprise from the boys, but now I am actually looking forward to winter...just a tad.

Family Movie Night

So, we have started a tradition with the boys to host a family movie night at least once a week (depending on our schedules).
One of the things that Chad and I love to do is pick an old movie from our childhoods that we enjoyed watching and introduce it to our boys.
We've watched some good ones so far:  Goonies, The Adventures in Babysitting, Short Circut, Homeward Bound...those are just a few that have been hits.
Tonight, we are going to watch Harry and the Hendersons!
I know the boys have a great time, but I think Chad and I love it more.
Spending some fun family time together, and then sleeping downstairs together.
We call that "camping out."
If you have any good movies that you think we should watch with our boys, please add suggestions in the comments section!

Crockpot Love

Welcome Fall!
(I know, I am about a week late.)
With the onset of Fall, the crockpot will become one of my kitchen best friends, and I am using it for tonight's dinner!
Spaghetti with homemade meat sauce, courtesy of my mother-in-law's recipe.
My house smells so delish!

Meat Sauce Recipe:
*2 cans tomato sauce (15 oz each)-You can use Italian flavor if you have it.
*1 can tomato paste (12 oz total)
*1 can water (15 oz)
*1 can mushrooms (4 oz)
*1 pkg Lawry's Dry Spaghetti Sauce Mix
*1 Tbsp sugar
*1 1/2-2lbs of hamburger (I like to use ground round)
*1/4 cup chopped onions
*garlic powder or you can use fresh to use when browning meat

Brown hamburger, onion and garlic-drain grease.  Add all other ingredients with the meat in a crockpot or sauce pan.  Simmer for 1-2 hours on stovetop, or on cook on low in crockpot for at least 2 hours.  The longer the sauce cooks/simmers, the better the flavor.  Serve over pasta of choice or whatever you desire!

Gabe Turns 7

I am a little late in posting about the boys' birthday celebrations, but I am here to remedy that with photos!
Gabe obviously had a Toy Story themed party here at our home.
We had a great turnout, and I am just humbled at how many friends and family showed up to help celebrate Gabe!

Hope you enjoy some of the photos from the party!

We had one of those blow up water slides for the kiddos to enjoy since his birthday falls during the dog days of summer heat!  That will explain the shirtlessness.  :-)
I made the banner, and I had so much fun doing it.  I think Graedon was more impressed with it than Gabe.
Also, it was my first time making cake pops, and they were a huge hit!

I'm back...(home and to blogging)

I am sure you noticed that I have not been blogging much, eventhough I promised to do so.  Well, there are a few reasons for that.
1.  Birthday coma-Yes, it does exist, and I suffered from it.  4 birthdays in less than 3 weeks, and it was crazy!  I am happy to say that birthday season is officially over for the Killion family this year.
2.  Prep-Because of all of the birthdays, there was a lot of running around in a crazy state for a few days, with lists in hand and tons to do.  There was a lot of prep work for the birthdays as well as for the surprise present we had in store for our boys!
3.  The Present-So, it was up in the air for most of the weeks leading up to the boys' birthdays as to if their present was going to become reality.  The reason for that was because of a lot of weather watching.  You may be wondering what the weather had to do with their present.  Well, up until the week of Sept. 6th, we had not made a definite decision, and then after watching the hurricanes finally slow down, we booked our flights to head to the Happiest Place on Earth for 9 days and surprise the boys the day we were to leave, Sept. 10th!  We picked Gabe up from school at 1:30pm, all packed and ready to go, and told the boys in the car on the way to the airport!

It was an AMAZING trip, one that I will never forget!  There is nothing like Disney magic, and we were surrounded by it for 9 days!  I cannot express how blessed I feel to have a husband the loves me and his family so much to work so hard to allow us to take family vacations like we do!!  We had a blast, and Chad and I have decided that we work pretty well together as a family of 4 on vacation.  It was a great bonding time for us and the boys, and we are already trying to plan our next trip!

Please be patient with me while I work throught the 1000+ photos that I have taken, and I will get posts about the birthday parties and the trip up as soon as I can!

New Sketch at Inspired to Scrap

I just posted a new layout and sketch based on that layout over at Inspired to Scrap!  Check it out!  I would love see your layouts if you choose to create one using my sketch!

Another busy week ahead...

I think I am officially in a birthday coma!  Is there anyone else out there that has their kiddo's birthdays along with a niece's and 2 great family friends all within 4 weeks of one another???  Oh my goodness.  It's been a whirlwind, and I am getting ready to plan another one.  Graedon's Super Mario Brothers birthday bash is this coming Saturday, and I am still recouperating from my niece's party from over the weekend.  I feel so horrible that I haven't even shared about Gabe's big Toy Story party either.  (Note to self-Post about Gabe's birthday, stat!)

To top all of that off, we are planning another Disney World vacation, and there is so much to do before we leave!  To say I am a bit overwhelmed is an understatement!

Inspired to Scrap

The class schedule for Inspired to Scrap has been posted, and you will want to head over as quickly as possible to check it out!  Stacey has some amazing classes lined up, and you don't want to miss out!  You can check out the whole line-up at http://www.inspiredtoscrap.net/apps/webstore/.

August 27th-29th Weekend Warriors-Inspired by Borders

The first Weekend Warriors class will be starting in one week, and it will be focusing on using borders in new and inspiring ways on your layouts!

*Picture and ontent below is credited to Stacey Lokovic, creator of Inspired to Scrap.

Our first class is a member inspired class based on a couple of requests. It is a weekend class - August 27-29 and it's called "Weekend Warriors- Inspired by Borders." We are focusing on border strips and punches. Anyone have those sitting around?? Yeah, I thought so...most of us probably have some. :) We'll be focusing on new ways to use those punches and pre-cut strips. As a BONUS, we are including a really cool technique called "patterned paper transfers" using products you probably already have. You will receive daily instructions, ideas, tips and samples within the setting of a private message board.

* For those of you unavailable that weekend, you can still purchase the class (and any of the classes!) and you will receive the class content in a document after the class is over. You'll miss out on the fun of chatting and sharing during the class, but you can still learn some techniques and gain some inspiration.

I hope you decide to join us at Inspired to Scrap for a class, and stick around to share some of your own inspiration with the rest of us!

7 Years and 3 Hours Ago...

Gabriel Eric came into my world and made me a mommy for the first time!  He created my role for me; my current employment-to be the best mommy that I can be.  Yes, there are days that I should be fired, but my boys keep me around.  :-)

Ah, I am having such a bittersweet day.  I have loved every minute of celebrating my now 7-year old son, but he starts school again tomorrow, and he will be a 1st grader!!  Where does the time go?  I feel that my job as his full-time mommy has just gotten pushed to part-time status and there is nothing that I can do to stop it.  He will officially be at school for more hours during the day than he will be at home with me, and I don't think it is bothering him one bit.  I am glad that it is not.  If it were bothering him, I would be an even more sniffling, blubbering fool.  I've been good, and have only broken down twice in the last 24 hours, but I can tear up just thinking about how much I am going to miss that boy of mine!  7 years flew by too fast.  I blinked, and he is walking the hallways by himself, not holding my hand anymore, and just being so independent.

I love you Gabriel Eric, and I have such high hopes and dreams for you, but the most important things that I want for you is to be happy and to know how much you have changed my life for the better.  There are no words to describe the love I feel for you!  You will always be the one who made me a mommy!

It's been too long

Has it really been over a month since I last posted?!?!  Wow!!  I knew it had been awhile, but no idea it had been this long.  I can't say that things haven't been busy around here though, but I am sad that the summer is quickly fading!  I am trying to hold on to as much as I can.

In other news....

My Gabe is turning 7 in 13 days!!  How is that possible?!?!?
I am not ready for this growing up thing anymore.
Can I stomp my foot and say that I am not going to participate in
growing older (my kids included?)
Can you tell we're throwing a Toy Story party?
And what about this?
Seriously, first you take away my summer and you make my kids grow older, but now you want them to go to school?
I don't like where this is going.

Oh, how I have missed my blog.

Thrown into the thick of it

All last week, the boys, Chad and I were emerged into Hero Headquarters at our church for our evening VBS program!  Oh my goodness, we were exhausted every night.  The boys had such a great time, but I am so glad we can finally have our evenings back.
Gabe and my niece Taylor with friends from their group during games.

Some Hero Headquarters game to get to the day's Hero Mission!
Yes, Chad was loved as Pizza Man!

In all of our crazy, busy week, we did manage to see Toy Story 3, one of the best movies by far this summer, not once, but twice!
Oh, how I am a Buzz and Woody fan!
I even teared up at both viewings.
If you haven't seen it yet, then I suggest you run out and see it today!

An evening of swimming and getting thrown into the air is how every child should spend a summer's evening!

I am still longing for our vacation days of doing whatever we want, when we want.
I miss it so much.
Why can't life be a constant vacation?
Also, is it bad, that we now want to move to Florida?
I really think we can be a permanent Florida family.

Layouts to share

I have been able to steal some time to get my scrap on.
I have really enjoyed getting some time to work on layouts.

I completed this layout for the Sketchy Thursdays challenge.
Love using a new sketch to create a layout.

Sorry this one is not completely centered.

happy thoughts

Some things that are making me HAPPY today:
  • Gabe only has 5 more days of school left, then summer vacation officially starts for us!
  • Only 9 more days until we leave for FLORIDA!
  • I am loving our heat and sunshine that we've been getting.
  • My mom is opening her pool this week!
  • I have a lot of home improvement projects underway, and I cannot wait to get them done.  I have found some great tips and ideas while blog surfing.
  • Taking motorcycle rides with the hubby has been great.
  • I love snuggling with my baby niece, Morgan.  She is just too precious and makes me want another baby of my own.  Look out baby fever!
What is making you happy right now?

"You have big hands."

Graedon has an obsession with putting things into boxes, carrying cases, lunch boxes, wipe boxes, really any kind of box that he calls his "secret box."  He then insists on taking that box everywhere with him.  One day, his "secret box" had a bunch of crayons in it.  We had the following coversation...

Graedon-"Will you get the crayons out for me?"

Me-"No,  you can do it."

Graedon-"No, I can't!"

Me-"Yes, you can.  Just get them out."

Graedon-"My hands are to wittle, see.  You have big hands, and I have wittle hands.  I can't do it."

Oh my goodness, I cracked up.  He was just matter of fact, and he meant it.  Love it!

Rain, Rain, Go Away

Dear Mr. Raincloud-

You have been wearing out your welcome.  I am tired of your antics, and I don't think you are being very nice not letting Miss Sunshine show up.  You have had your time playing long enough.  It is now time to share the sky.

Sincerely,
Me

Living life

Going to be heading here later on tonight.
I was hoping it would get rained out.  Is that bad?
:-)

Sorry, I haven't been blogging lately.  We've been a little busy.
Lots of baseball and softball games to attend between Gabe and my niece Taylor.
Went to a very chilly outdoor wedding over the weekend.
I am ready for summer and our Florida vacation.
I am counting down the days.

We've also been working on some home improvement projects.
Getting our front porch roof replaced, and then spiffing up the front porch-new paint, furniture, etc.
Just lots going on in my day-to-day life at the moment.
What's new with you?

Any good activities to recommend for a 3 and a 6 year old for a 17+ hour car ride to Cocoa Beach, FL?  Would love some suggestions!

Honey-Pecan Cinnamon Rolls Recipe

For all of you cinnamon lovers who are still trying to eat healthy, I have an awesome WW recipe for them!

Honey-Pecan Cinnamon Rolls (I used almonds instead)
WW points=3pts per serving

1 (1lb) loaf frozen white bread dough
2 T granulated sugar
2 tsp cinnamon (I eyeballed it)
Butter flavored cooking spray
1/3 C honey
1/3 C brown sugar
3 T chopped pecans, toasted (I used untoasted almonds)

1.  Thaw dough in refrigerator for 12 hours; cover and bring to room temp (about an hour).  Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
2.  Combine granulated sugar and cinnamon.  (I added a bit of brown sugar to this mixture as well from my 1/3 C measurement).  Roll dough into a 12x8-inch rectangle on a lightly floured surface.

Lightly coat with cooking spray.

Sprinkle with the sugar and cinnamon mixture.
Lightly spray with cooking spray again.
Beginning at long side, roll up dough tightly, jelly-roll fashion; pinch the seam to seal.
Cut roll crosswise into 12 (1-inch thick) slices.

3. Place honey in microwave safe dish (I used my pie plate that I was cooking the rolls in).  Microwave on HIGH for 20 seconds until it coats the bottom of dish evenly.  Sprinkle brown sugar and nuts on top of honey.
Place rolls, cut side down, in pan.

Cover and let rise in a warm place (85 degrees), free from draft.
(I let mine rise in the over before preheating it).
**Yes, I made 2 batches as well, but one of them was to share with my brother and sister-in-law.  They loved them!

4.  Bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes or until lightly browned and fluffy.  Invert rolls immediately onto a platter; cool 5 minutes.  Yield: 1 dozen (serving size is 1 roll)
